This is my stock Downpipe. The turbo's wastegate dumps into that freaking wall right there. Not the hole, the wall. Why would you do this to us Subaru?

on the subi it's called a downpipe. get a 3in bellmouth+tune and enjoy your sizable chunk of extra ponies.

I suggest this

Sorry, I meant downpipe. Long day of uppipes.

I don't even know what I'm looking at, it's so beautiful.

I have an 03 wrx. Get catless down and uppipe with a tune if you can.

Nameless Performance WRX downpipe. The sexiest way to solve your frustration (and gain a fair chunk of horsepower in the process)

My friend has an external dump. Now THAT is sexy.

Is that also what's known as Vent to Atmosphere?

time for after market downpipes :D
I intend to do the same for my car. I need two >_<

"go home Suburu engineer, you're drunk!"
![]() 10/30/2013 at 08:59 |

Yup. Just empties out the wastegate right onto the ground.

Ah ok, that's what I plan on doing with my SHO. Just gotta figure out how to get to the rear turbo (darn transverse mounted engines).

Warning: It is loud.

Haha, noted.
It'll be easy enough to go back to stock.

The fact that the picture is of a downpipe not attached to a car, it's probably being replaced with something already.
![]() 10/30/2013 at 10:17 |

they are attempting to make it slower and less fuel efficient.
or possibly to reduce emissions?
![]() 10/30/2013 at 10:49 |

Nah. I'm replacing my uppipe and have to remove a lot of stuff in the process. It would be really smart to just do the downpipe and stuff, too. Alas, I don't have the money for a downpipe.
![]() 10/30/2013 at 10:50 |

My guess is emissions, but it's horrible for the car itself.
![]() 10/30/2013 at 10:51 |

In the process of installing the uppipe, don't quite have money for a downpipe/tune yet.
![]() 10/30/2013 at 11:26 |

the uppipe is the worst. not a lot of room to work with in there.
I had to reinstall mine twice to get gaskets to seal up right. Bolt tightening sequence is critical, also check out the grimmspeed extra thick gaskets if you have leaks.
St 2 power is def worth it though.
![]() 10/30/2013 at 11:27 |

seriously do it .
![]() 10/30/2013 at 15:10 |

The Grimmspeed uppipe I got now comes with the gaskets, so that's good.
This thing has been a bitch.

Typically "Vent to Atmosphere" refers to the Blow Off Valve, not the waste gate. As in, a VTA BOV as opposed to a recirculating BOV where the boost air is piped in front of the turbo. It's especially necessary on MAF-based turbo cars where a VTA BOV makes for a super rich condition as much of the air already measured by the MAF is dumped back out into the atmosphere.

AH thanks, somehow I had a feeling I was missing something, lol.
I would be doing the VTA BOV. My car is speed density, so I will be ok.

Yes, you'll be fine. The divorced waste gate as that pipe is called is sometimes referred to as a "screamer pipe" for reasons that are likely very obvious...
